Machining the "Howell V-Four" Engine
Block
The rotary table setup gives accurate angle machining of the cylinder
bank
tops and cylinder bores.
The engine base is tight against an indicated angle plate and
using protective
pads, two six inch "C" clamps hold the block tight.
Mill to accurately scribed
lines and the same depth setting for each side of the block.
One cylinder bank is tight against the angle plate and the other
one on the mill
table. You can use a largeround bar and clamps shown here to hold
the block.
Notice the white protective plastic strip under the bar to protect
the block. If you
made the Cylinder Bank Holding Jig on Sheet #19, bolt it onto
a cylinder bank
and then clamp the jig directly to the angle plate.
