Nanzy Gas Engine
Nanzy was machined from a set of castings purchased from Russell
Snyder. They are now sold by Jay Peters. The engine has 1-1/8"
bore, 1-1/2" stroke and 6" flywheels. I made babbit
crankshaft bearings instead of bronze and a positive crankcase
vent check valve is installed inside the crankcase. The ignition
system consists of a 6 volt 4 amp hour sealed lead acid battery,
an old style Briggs & Stratton magneto ignition coil, a Floyd
Carter designed Electronic Buzzcoil Circuit built from one of
my kits and a dual Hall Effect magnetic pickup. One of the Hall
Effect sensors is activated by position of the exhaust valve push
rod and serves as a spark saver. The prototype engine used a rather
crude push button type points system. A fuel pickup filter screen
was built into the engine base fuel tank. The engine runs on my
blend of 70% Methanol and 30% Ozark Trails camp fuel from WalMart
and at the lowest speed setting, will run about 24 hours on a
5 ounce tank of fuel!
